The Green Portal came about as a result of discussions with the attendees of Globe 2004 in Vancouver in April this year. The consensus was that there was tremendous momentum in the Environmental Industries and that something needed to be done to get the word out to the community at large. Also, the palpable excitment needed to be shared with Canadian youth.

The Green Portal was born of an idea. Spread the word and get Canadian youth involved. The idea arose to create a student practicum where students would build a communications portal in their local community and use a series of proven behavioural change tools to motivate their community to Go Green - to reduce their ecological footprint at home and in their transportation choices.

A key concept is that the portal will provide a series of animated calculators to show people that 'every little bit helps.'  The site will use real time data modeling to allow consumers to see the impact of their behavioural and lifestyle choices has on their health, their pocketbook and the environment.
